Summary
The presented publication Frontiers, Massacres and Replacement of Populations in Cartographic Representation. Case Studies (15r - 20
Centuries) is concerned with a series of topics, which, for many reasons, could not be processed in detail earlier in the Czechoslovak and Czech
historical atlas cartography. Cartographic reconstructions and cartographic modelling with applied GIS method are standardly used in analyses,
interpretations and popularization of research works in the humanities and natural scientific disciplines. In many cases, basic research with
application of data gathered in foreign archives and libraries - mainly British, American, Polish, Israeli or German was not performed until 1989.
The publication is a component of research programmes of the Institute of History CAS, especially within the project Historical Geography, Early
Modern History, History of 19th and 20lh Century, in relation to forced emigrations and violent relocations of populations in Central Europe in the
past and their spatial illustration. It follows the themes of the Academic Atlas of Czech History (Eva SEMOTANOVA - Jiff CATJTHAML et alii.
Prague 2014), develops them and enriches them with new findings. It provides new viewpoints on selected historical periods and fills some of the
white spots in the Czech and Central European history with new factual material.
The presented project chronologically delimitated by five centuries and initiated by forced migration movements within Central Europe with
accent to the living space of the Czech nation, or nations living in 20th-century Czechoslovakia, presents the issue of Frontiers, Replacement of
Populations and the ensuing Massacres for the first time in such a complex approach.
Two of the six separate Parts present issues connected with migration motivated by religious reformation of the Catholic Church and its
anti-reaction manifested in the form of re-Catholicization. Parts III to VI concentrate on the 20th century when the hitherto unknown waves of
social and national radicalism surged together with an open fight for the world supremacy, which divided European powers into two antagonistic
blocs. Their militant activities or conversely pacific inactivity stood behind the two key worldwide conflicts, which quite „naturally“ bred forced
relocations of the nations and selected groups of the populations. The level of the typology was conditioned by nationalism, racism and the
(so-called) class-approach to citizens of the nation s own population as well as population of the conquered country. Terror, murdering and
massacres became a kind of „natural“ component of our being despite numerous attempts to create fixed boundaries acknowledged by all
nations and political representations that might prevent or at least strongly limit the migration violence.
The presented project seeks to provide a starting point for further deeper, comprehensive comparative research on issues involving
the Frontiers, Massacres and Replacement of Populations.

Resumé
Pfedlozeny projekt, chronologicky vymezeny péti stoletími a iniciovany nucenymi migracními pohyby v prostoru stfední Evropy s akcentem na
zivotní prostor ceského národa, resp. ve 20. století národu zijících v Ceskoslovensku, prezentuje poprvé formou kartografického znázornéní
(rekonstrukcních, historickych map) v relativné komplexním pohledu problematiku hranic, vymény obyvatelstva a s témito procesy spojenych
masakrú. Publikace vznikla v rámci vyzkumného programu Historického ústavu AV CR, smérovanému ke studiu déjin ceskych zemí v mezinárodním
kontextu a k vyzkumu historickych krajin, a zcásti pri resení grantu GACR Vyzkumné centrum historické geografie. Metodicky vycházela
z Akademického atlasu ceskych déjin (Eva SEMOTANOVÁ - Jirí CAJTHAML a kol., Praha 2014). Pri zpracování návrhú rekonstrukcních map byly
vyuzity vysledky bádání v domácích i zahranicních archivech a knihovnách, britskych, americkych, némeckych, polskych a v Izraeli. Spolupráce
s tymem kartografú, védeckych pracovníkú z CVUT, vedla, tak jako pri tvorbé Akademického atlasu ceskych déjin, k novym podnétúm v oblasti
historické geografie a kartografie.
Dvé ze sesti samostatnych cásti prezentují problematiku migrací zpúsobenych nábozenskou reformací katolické církve a její protireakcí,
projevenou v podobé rekatolizace. Cásti III. az VI. se soustred’ují na 20. století, ve kterém se vzedmuly doposud nepoznané vlny sociálního
a nacionálního radikalizmu, a téz otevreny boj o svétové prvenství, jez rozdélil evropské mocnosti (v zásadé) na dva zneprátelené bloky.
Jejich militantní aktivita nebo naopak pacifistická necinnost stály za dvéma pro lidstvo klícovymi - celosvétovymi válecnymi konflikty, jez celkem
“prirozené“ plodily násilné presuny národu vytypovanych skupin obyvatel. Mira typizace byla podmiñována predevsím nacionalizmem, rasismem
a (tzv.) trídním prístupem k obyvatelúm vlastní ale i dobyté zemé. Teror, vrazdéní a masakry se právé v tomto století staly jakousi „prirozenou“
soucástí naseho bytí. Bohuzel, vzdor nescetnym pokusúm o vytvorení pevnych hrází, uznávanych vsemi národy a politickymi reprezentacemi,
které by zabránily, ci aspoñ vyrazné omezily migracní násilí.
Pfedlozeny projekt si klade ambici byt vychodiskem k dalsímu hlubsímu, a téz vsestrannému, komparativnímu vyzkumu problematiky hranic,
masakrú a vymény obyvatelstva.
