Summary:"A young painter, Celina Kanunnikava, with her artistic output proves that painting can be critical and engaged, but at the same time, keep its polysemy, far from becoming one-dimensional journalism. Living in Minsk and Poznań, she confronts both the post-soviet regime of Alexander Lukashenko as well as the surplus of liberty or the tyranny of possibilities – a phrase referring to contemporary reality, coined by the ever-alert Zygmunt Bauman. Thus, Kanunnikava lives in two worlds simultaneously, carefully observing in both of them not only the postmodern vexations symptomatic of the oppressive conditions, but also those arising from the surplus of liberty. Kanunnikava has experienced politics with her own body by participating in manifestations and protests in Belarus. Her work is, therefore, inspired by personal encounters and her awareness of History. The title of her exhibition at Wozownia, "Crowds and Power", refers to the famous book published in 1960 by Elias Canetti.
