Twenty years later, the Virginia Supreme Court did the same thing to another lesbian mother. In ordering that children be separated from their mothers, these courts ruled that it was not possible for a woman to be both a good parent and a lesbian. The Right to be Parents is the first book to provide a detailed history of how LGBT parents have turned to the courts to protect and defend their relationships with their children. Carlos A. Ball chronicles the stories of LGBT parents who, in seeking to gain legal recognition of and protection for their relationships with their children, have fundamentally changed how American law defines and regulates parenthood. Each chapter contains riveting human stories of determination and perseverance as LGBT parents challenge the widely-held view that having a same-sexual orientation, or that being a transsexual, renders individuals incapable of being good parents. To this day, some courts are still not able to look beyond sexual orientation and gender identity in order to fairly apply legal principles in cases involving LGBT parents and their children. Yet on the whole, stories are of progress and transformation: as a result of these pioneering LGBT parent litigants, the law is increasingly recognizing the wide diversity in American familial structures. The Right to be Parents explores why and how that has come to be"--Provided by publisher |

The Right to be Parents explores why and how that has come to be"--Provided by publisher LAW / Family Law / Children bisacsh SOCIAL SCIENCE / Gay Studies bisacsh LAW / Administrative Law & Regulatory Practice bisacsh Custody of children fast Gay parents / Legal status, laws, etc fast Parent and child fast Kind Parent and child United States Gay parents Legal status, laws, etc United States Custody of children United States Erziehung (DE-588)4015482-8 gnd rswk-swf Rechtsstellung (DE-588)4134078-4 gnd rswk-swf Kind (DE-588)4030550-8 gnd rswk-swf Homosexualität (DE-588)4025798-8 gnd rswk-swf Transsexualität (DE-588)4185937-6 gnd rswk-swf Eltern (DE-588)4014516-5 gnd rswk-swf USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Homosexualität (DE-588)4025798-8 s Transsexualität (DE-588)4185937-6 s Eltern (DE-588)4014516-5 s Kind (DE-588)4030550-8 s Erziehung (DE-588)4015482-8 s Rechtsstellung (DE-588)4134078-4 s 1\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 0-8147-3930-X Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-0-8147-3930-3 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=450687 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
