But stereotypes of Arabs, manifested for instance in Orientalist representations of Sheherazade and the Arabian Nights in Hollywood, have prevailed for much longer. Here Somaya Sabry argues that the Arab-American experience has been powerfully shaped by racial discourse and Orientalism, and is further complicated today by hostility towards Arabs in post-9/11 America. She shows how Arab-American women writers and performers confront and subvert racial stereotypes in this charged context by recasting representations of Sheherazade Includes bibliographical references (pages 189-200) and index Scheherazade Queen, consort of Shahryar, King of Persia (Legendary character) Scheherazade (DE-588)119507714 gnd rswk-swf United States / Race relations Literature LITERARY CRITICISM / American / General bisacsh American literature / Arab American authors fast American literature / Women authors fast Arab American arts fast Arab Americans / Social conditions fast Literature fast Orientalism fast Race relations fast Scheherazade (Legendary character) fast Literatur American literature Arab American authors History and criticism American literature Women authors History and criticism Scheherazade (Legendary character) in literature Race relations in literature Orientalism in literature Arab American arts Arab Americans Social conditions Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 gnd rswk-swf Araberin (DE-588)4443970-2 gnd rswk-swf USA USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Araberin (DE-588)4443970-2 s Literatur (DE-588)4035964-5 s Scheherazade (DE-588)119507714 p 1\p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 1-84885-568-0 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe, Hardcover 978-1-84885-568-7 http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=380546 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
