505 | 8 | |a This book is written by two individuals with very different experiences in international relations, one, a career diplomat with some results to show at the UN, the other a practising therapist, and both concerned to develop the links between the psychological and the political worlds. The book focuses on the possibility of change in both the structure and process of current international relations in the hope of making contribution to the resolution of conflict. The book is about life and not theory, and part of the narrative is about the authors own experiences of sitting with the enemy and sometimes solving issues with them. Together, the authors explore what lies behind the hostile facade of the other, what alienates us, and how, in spite of the aggression, there is sometimes the potential for shared mutual interests. Conflict resolution is a vital subject in international relations, both in theory and in practical politics. This book does not claim to be a free-standing study of international relations and its theory and practice but of the underlying factors making up the mindsets of those involved in conflict resolution, and this will be the books unique contribution. It is conceived as a collection of studies of conflict resolution that examine how the psychological issues are affected by history and culture, and how we construct identity. These are all fundamental elements underlying the basic East-West division and mutual miscomprehension which are set out in detail in the accounts of negotiations in the book | |

These are all fundamental elements underlying the basic East-West division and mutual miscomprehension which are set out in detail in the accounts of negotiations in the book Entscheidungsträger gnd Friedensvermittlung gnd Politischer Konflikt gnd Psychische Konstitution gnd POLITICAL SCIENCE / Government / International bisacsh POLITICAL SCIENCE / International Relations / General bisacsh Conflict management fast Humanitarian law fast International law fast Military policy fast National security fast Peace / Social aspects fast Geschichte Gesellschaft Internationales Recht Military policy History National security History Conflict management History Peace Social aspects Humanitarian law International law Psychische Konstitution (DE-588)4176189-3 gnd rswk-swf Friedensvermittlung (DE-588)4155445-0 gnd rswk-swf Politischer Konflikt (DE-588)4115589-0 gnd rswk-swf Entscheidungsträger (DE-588)4204152-1 gnd rswk-swf Politischer Konflikt (DE-588)4115589-0 s Entscheidungsträger (DE-588)4204152-1 s Psychische Konstitution (DE-588)4176189-3 s Friedensvermittlung (DE-588)4155445-0 s 1\p DE-604 Picco, Giandomenico Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe Rifkind, Gabrielle, 1953- Fog of peace http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&db=nlabk&AN=766060 Aggregator Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
spellingShingle | Rifkind, Gabrielle 1953- The fog of peace the human face of conflict resolution Pt. 1: Practice, not theory: A so-called diplomat's story by Gianni Picco -- The therapist's story by Gabrielle Rifkind -- No politics without psychology -- Israel: from trauma to where? -- The Taliban mind -- My God is right, yours is wrong -- Iran: getting into the mind of the enemy -- Thirteen successful negotiations with Iran -- Part 3: The changing nature of warfare -- Alternatives to war: do we need to get smarter? -- Part 4: New structures/old structures: Beyond the nation state: do we still need an enemy? -- A look into the future -- The art of negotiation -- The politics of self-awareness This book is written by two individuals with very different experiences in international relations, one, a career diplomat with some results to show at the UN, the other a practising therapist, and both concerned to develop the links between the psychological and the political worlds.
