Item Description:Allen, R.R. Tennessee, 674. - Frederick Steidinger Heiskell and Hugh Brown printed at Knoxville, Tenn. from 1816 to 1829. National interest in the authenticity of the Mecklenburg declaration was first aroused in 1819 when correspondence on the subject between the North Carolina congressional delegation and representative citizens of Mecklenburg was published in the Raleigh register and the Essex register (Salem, Mass.). Correspondence in the J.G.M. Ramsey papers at the University of Tennessee shows that Ramsey sent directions for printing the broadside to F.S. Heiskell in January 1826, and that he presented a copy to Andrew Jackson in 1827. - Hummel, R.O. Southeastern broadsides, 2674. - Printed area, including arched ornamental border, measures 28.0 x 21.2 cm. - Shaw & Shoemaker, 48662. - Signed: Abraham Alexander, chairman. J.M.
