Summary:This book is produced to celebrate the 20th May 2015, the 20th anniversary of our orthodox parish of SS. Constantine and Helen in Bruges. The parish was founded by the current Archdeacon Athenagoras Peckstadt of Belgium in 1995 and found a home in the historical Sint-Joos almshouse complex in Bruges. Ever since, both the building and the orthodox parish form a symbiotic unity.00The Sint-Joos almshouse is one of the oldest charitable foundations of the city of Bruges. From the middle of the fourteenth century the building was used as a home for passers and pilgrims. In the late 16th century, Sint-Joos evolved into a House of God. The almshouse lost its function after the French Revolution and has been used for different purposes since its decline in the 19th century until the chapel degenerated in the 1950's when it became a warehouse for the artworks of the city of Bruges. In 1995 the orthodox parish started using the building and renovated the chapel and almshouse. Ever since the building has been the focal point for an international orthodox parish
