SUMMARY
BEDRİ PRISHTINA - PATRIOT, HUMANIST AND
DISTINGUISHED VISIONARY
Bedri was bom on 25 March 1947 in the town of Vushtrri, from the
father Ismajl and mother Naile. His family used to live in the village of
Maxhunaj near Vushtrri. From Vushtrri his family moved to Prishtina, where
they currently live. Bedri finished his primary school in Prishtine, as well as,
the secondary economic school and the Faculty of Economics. Before the
war, Bedri used to work in education and economic institutions. He was a
hard worker. After the war, he continued his business and economic
activities and became a well-known and respected businessman in Kosovo.
Apart from his business affairs, Bedri gave a significant contribution to a
national Albanian cause. His family used to be a nest of our national
movement activists. Due to this, Bedri was arrested and his house, his
brothers and he, himself was followed by the police in Kosovo.
The work of Bedri Prishtines, the patriot and devoted activist, was
very lively, and he developed it, particularly after the arrest of his brothers,
thus he worked with great commitment carrying on political activities for the
rights of Albanian population. Many of Bedri’s activities were secretive, he
never exposed himself as a key player; however, he was always behind them.
Bedri always worked and acted with caution and never left traces that could
be used as evidence against him.
Bedri has been a man of high national, humanitarian and moral
merits. He is a patriot, a man with a noble heart, hopeful, courageous and
optimist. Bedri used to be the center of active and passive resistance in the
struggle for victory, starting from his family, his neighborhood in Çeklik,
primary school, secondary school, the faculty of economics, the place he
used to work, the town of Prishtina where he carried out his activities, and on
a broader scale throughout Kosovo and Albanian territories. His word was
listened to in his family, among friends, colleagues, his words were a
guidance in raising national awareness, inspiring high moral and national
virtues, readiness for solidarity support to friends and relatives, resistance
and war against the occupying regime.

Bedri Prishtina is a man of action, especially when it comes to
common national interest. However, his actions were adapted to the
circumstances and events prevailing at the time. By reading literature of a
historic and national character, as well as, by inheriting from his family and
the surrounding where he lived, he embedded deep in his soul the actions of
a patriot. His wisdom made him engage during the post-war period in
business activities and reach considerable results. Having created a good
material basis, he supported his country but also numerous families living in
poverty, especially by constructing new houses for these poor and homeless
families.
Bedri’s progressive and humanitarian ideas are being implemented in
practice. The pieces of advice Bedri provides and the way he disseminated
them and his attitude are real and consistent. His work and business results
are a model not only in Kosovo but also in other Albanian territories. Those
who have known and have cooperated with Bedri, consider him as a devoted
patriot, a successful businessman, but also as a good friend and associate.
It is worth mentioning that since his childhood, Bedri Prishtina
distinguished himself from his peers with his national and humane approach.
His virtues were founded in the family, because he was brought up in a
family with strong national Albanian tradition. Bedri was a bridge for
national unification, and he was both, among intellectuals and ordinary
people. He had an unexplainable positive energy, which proved to be
decisive in his life and work. This is confirmed by his distinguished work as
a professor in the secondary economic school, later as the Head of
accounting office and the director of the brick factory in Prishtina. After the
1998/1999 war in Kosovo, Bedri was appointed the director for construction
and accommodation issues in the Provisional Government of Kosovo.
His bom ability to meet the national challenges of the time as a result
of his close relationship with his relatives and uncles, socializing with
various patriots and intellectuals, and due to other circumstances influenced
on the attitude and humane propaganda of Bedri Prishtina to shine in every
place where he lived and worked.
It is said that “honest work does not need light”, even if someone
tries to darken it. There is another wise saying: “you cannot reach the end if
you do not know where you are heading to”. Bedri started 50 years ago to

work and leam about the family, about Kosovo and Albanians. He has not
reached the end yet, because his work is continuing with full success.
Bedri is very modest, but he is a visionary of ideas and success. He
did not want to publish the information collected about him as long as he is
alive, however as a result of my insistence and of his close family, we are
publishing it in an authentic way, without any romanticism, without
glorification and subjectivity, in as objective way as possible.
Despite the fact that Bedri still continues with his patriotic, humane
and business activities, this book aims to inform the general public about the
difficulties Bedri went through in the past and success he achieved. His
successful activities have been taken up by his successors, his two sons and
two daughters and have been continuing with same success.
This book covers only a short segment of his activities. The
information presented have been collected from the documentation and
recollections of Bedri, his friends and associates, therefore, I take this
opportunity to express my sincerest appreciation to all those who shared their
memories in an oral and written form about Bedri and his family.
The book “Bedri Prishtina, patriot, humanist and distinguished
visionary” is a memoir for Bedri Prishtina, the visionary of success. The
book is preceded by a short history of his family, his birthplace his ancestors
and descendants. Following, in separate chapters, information about Bedri’s
patriotic, humanist and business activities are presented. In another separate
chapter, memories and impressions are presented. They reflect impressions
and memories about the work and activities of Bedri since his childhood
until now.
In the respective chapters, photos from different stages of life and
activities of Bedri have been presented, of his friends, associates and family
members.
This piece of work is a memoir, which gives the impression of being
written with ease, however, memoirs of this kind is not easy to prepare. We
believe that this compiled memoir provides also material of interest for
public opinion, particularly for coming generations. The book is not
comprehensive; however it could serve as a model for the preparation of
other memoirs of meritorious personalities of our time.
