Dies betrifft vor allem Flexionskategorien, Wortarten, Kasusmarkierung, Weglaßbarkeit von Satzgliedern, Personenreferenz und verbale Deixis. Die wichtigsten typologischen Themen sind morphologische Charakterisierungen (Agglutination, analytisch/synthetisch u.ä.), Wortstellung, Kasusmarkierung, Head/Dependent-Marking und Pro-Drop.
