It gives an accurate and up-to-date overview of high quality work currently in progress in research methodology, processing, principles and parameters theory, phonology, the bilingual lexicon, input and instruction. The volume will have the purpose of a handbook for teachers, students and researchers in the area of second language acquisition. The aim is to provide the reader with an acquisition perspective on processes of second and foreign language learning
Review text: Lalleman's opener is a ramblimg state-of-the-art-in SLA, coping with the difficult task of compression; this is followed by a neat and tidy summary of the history of tranfer with respect to the acquisition of grammar by Sharwood Smith - I Particulary enjoyed his apocryphal dialogue between a Ladonian, a Dulayo-Burtian, and a Selinkerian on the interpretation of 'No is true'. Eric Kellerman in Studies in Second Language Acquisition, Cambridge, March 1999
