Beschreibung: | Includes bibliographical references and index. - Significantly revised version of the author's thesis (Ph. D.)--Harvard University, 2005 This study analyzes several passages in the Former Prophets (2 Sam 19:12-44, 2 Kgs 2:1-18, Judg 8:4-28) from a literary perspective, and argues that the text presents Transjordan as liminal in Israels history, a place from which Israels leaders return with inaugurated or renewed authority. It then traces the redactional development of Samuel-Kings that led to this literary symbolism, and proposes a hypothesis of continual updating and combination of texts, beginning early in Israels monarchy and continuing until the final formation of the Deuteronomistic History. Several source documents may be isolated, including three narratives of Sauls rise, two distinct histories of Davids rise, and a court history that was subsequently revised with pro-Solomonic additions. These texts had been combined already in a Prophetic Record during the 9th c. B.C.E. (with A. F. Campbell), which was received as an integrated unit by the Deuteronomistic Historian. The symbolic geography of the Jordan River and Transjordan, which even extends into the New Testament, was therefore not the product of a deliberate theological formulation, but rather the accidental by-product of the contingency of textual redaction that had as its main goal the historical presentation of Israels life in the land |

The symbolic geography of the Jordan River and Transjordan, which even extends into the New Testament, was therefore not the product of a deliberate theological formulation, but rather the accidental by-product of the contingency of textual redaction that had as its main goal the historical presentation of Israels life in the land Zugl.: Cambridge, MA, Harvard Univ., Diss., 2005 Bible O.T Historical Books Criticism, interpretation, etc Bible O.T Historiography Bibel Deuteronomistisches Geschichtswerk (DE-588)4197558-3 gnd rswk-swf Bibel Geschichte Deuteronomistic history (Biblical criticism) Literarkritik (DE-588)4135649-4 gnd rswk-swf Jordan History Jordan River Jordanien (DE-588)4028750-6 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content Jordanien (DE-588)4028750-6 g Bibel Deuteronomistisches Geschichtswerk (DE-588)4197558-3 u DE-604 Literarkritik (DE-588)4135649-4 s Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-3-11-020410-0 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 3-11-020410-X Beihefte zur Zeitschrift für die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft Band 396 (DE-604)BV044409992 396 https://doi.org/10.1515/9783110212761 Verlag Volltext http://www.degruyter.com/doi/book/10.1515/9783110212761 Verlag Volltext |
