In this chapter, the author presented an analysis of the use of financial statements, based on chaos and
complexity theory. He studied the basic accounting equation from the view of complex logic through
the mechanisms of the circumscription. The chaos can be observed in the form of phase space and time
series from the relationship between indicators of financial health, such as total assets, stakeholder's
equity, profit and loss, or cash flow at end of year. Also, he investigated the relationships among ratios
of sustainability, liquidity, and profitability etc.

In chapter 2, the authors investigated the nonlinear dynamics and chaos in a fractional-order financial
system. For the stability condition, they used fractional Routh-Hurwitz criteria, and also obtained a nec-
essary condition for this system to remain chaotic. They found that the chaos exists in the system with
order less than three. Finally, it is shown that the fractional-order financial system is controllable just in
the fractional-order case when using a specific choice of linear controllers. Numerical simulations are
used to verify the analytical results.

In this chapter the author illustrated two applications of recurrence quantification analysis to financial
data: a set of international stock indices, and zero-coupon yields of US government bonds. The RQA is a
nonlinear technique to investigate any time series and very useful since it does not requires assumptions
on stationarity, statistical distribution and based on minimum number of observations.

In this chapter, the authors presented an empirical investigation of the daily movement of stock and
commodity index of two different countries to investigate the interrelationship between stock and com-
modity market. The uniqueness of this study lies in the choice of markets as the methodology. The
authors have chosen a developed market, viz., the US market and an emerging market, viz., the Indian
market. This study uses the major stock and commodity indices respectively for both countries for a
period of three years. For analysis the authors have used the techniques from nonlinear dynamics like
recurrence analysis, power spectrum analysis, delay based cross-correlation functions, et cetera. The
investigation revealed that the dynamics of the time path of daily movement of Indian stock and com-
modity exchanges are similar in nature while those of the US market are quite different. This chapter
also models the respective time series using Geometric Brownian Motion and finds that the Indian data
set performed much better than the US ones. This has a strong impact on strategy for designing mixed
portfolios in Indian market.

In Chapter 6, the author presents results from a wider research in construction which investigated the
effects of socio-organic complexity on project performance adopting the leadership style. The results
proved the nonlinearity between performance and complexity and lack of actions that will manage the
effects of complexity. A framework was developed, validated, and presented in this chapter, which, by
using the characteristics of complexity, allows the measurement of the current level of actions and pro-
vides a set of additional actions that will enable management of complexity through the leadership style.

In the human civilizations, more or less every organization faces difficulties to put order in their struc-
ture. The extreme case goes to chaos and confusion, and the purpose was to revert back to a steady state.
Except in the cases of some extreme sects and marginal crime organizations, almost all organizations
strive to bring their own existential definitions of order. In this process, management has been the tool
of bringing order to organization. In the organizational theory literature, this chaotic essence is either
ignored or it is treated as a problem of good implementation of managerial control. In this chapter, the
problem has been treated using non-linear techniques, considering the organizational reality.

In this chapter, the authors investigated the chaos theory in careers, applied to organizational behav-
ior. The organizations and the corresponding people can be considered as a complex dynamical open
systems - or strange attractors. From this perspective organizational behavior can be understood in
nonlinear dynamics terms such as attractors, fractal patterns, emergence, and phase shifts. A model of
organizational and personal creativity is presented and linked to concepts such as fractal behavior, career
development, and the re-thinking of traditional goal-centered approaches to management and change.
For organizations to thrive in a world that is inevitably complex, uncertain, and changing, the Chaos
Theory of Careers provides a coherent management framework and suggests approaches that will foster
the development of a creative and flexible organization to meet these contemporary challenges.

The aim of this chapter to make a relationship between organizations and complex systems, and how
they manage to creatively maintain their existence on the edge of chaos, foster complexity, and renew
themselves. The overall shift in academic thought that has given rise to these theories and this terminol-
ogy is also examined, with an emphasis on the ways various terms have been used in previous literature.
The authors also presented some literature review on organizational intelligence, organizational stupidity,
psychological organizational health, and physical organizational health. Finally, they produced a model
that represents how organizations are able to exist on the edge of chaos, based on concrete measurements
of the four dimensions mentioned above, taken over certain limited time spans.

In this chapter, the author proposes a scheme of structuring teams using complex adaptive systems.
Therefore, using deductions drawn from research results, regarding the implementation of the process
and the effects of complexity, a tentative proposal for a Finite Structural approach is made for setting
up and testing the structure of teams. The process integrates a number of progressive theories, not only
from the field of organization design, but also from engineering, physics, and psychology, with theories
such as Social Network Theory, Actor-Network Theory, Finite Element Analysis, complexity, cluster-
ing, and cross functional team behaviors. The author also discusses the improvement of the approach
for project managers and the process of structuring of teams.

Drifting into Failure: Complexity Theory and the Management of Risk .241

The Gaussian copula, in itsfirst equation, has the intention to price collaterized debt obligations, and work
out whether they are moving in the same direction. The copula was an enabler of mortgaging the most
hopeless of homeowner prospects. Millions of securities could be traded on the back of a single number
(a security is something that shows ownership, or right of ownership of stocks or bonds, or the right to
ownership connected with derivatives that get their value from some underlying asset). As more and
more webs of interactions and relationships and interdependencies and feedback loops started growing
around it, however, it became part of a complex system. It ended up bringing global lending to a virtual
standstill, triggering a worldwide financial crisis and a deep recession. This chapter investigates how a
once good idea drifted into failure, and how such a risk of collapse can be managed.

In this chapter, the authors presented an agent-based model of the dynamics of cognitive capital in a
simulated workplace. Factors such as stress, sleep insufficiency, and excessive work function to reduce
the cognitive capital among workers. The cognitive capital in this microworld is tracked among agents
suffering from stress, sleep insufficiency, and excessive work. They have also investigated how cogni-
tive capital changes under varying cognitive enrichment scenarios. Simulation results well support the
theoretical analysis.

Satellite imageries interpretation has become the technology of choice for a host of developmental, sci-
entific, and administrative management work. The huge repository of geospatial data and information
that are available as satellite imageries datasets from platforms such as Google Earth need to be classified
and understood for natural resources management, urban planning, and sustainable development. The
classification and analysis procedures involve algorithms like Maximum Likelihood Classifier, Isodata,
Fuzzy-logic classifier, and Artificial Neural Network based classifier. Amongst these classifiers, the op-
timum has to be selected for classifications which involve multiple features and classes. Herein lies the
motivation for the present research, which facilitates the selection of one amongst the many algorithms
available to a decision maker/manager. The aforementioned techniques are applied for classification,
and the respective accuracies in the classes: forestry, rock, water, built-up area, and dry river bed have
been tabulated and verified from ground truth. The comparison is based on time and space complexity
of the algorithms considering also the accuracy. It is found that traditional methods like MLC and Iso-
data offer good time and space consumption performance over the recent more adaptable algorithms as
fuzzy and ANN. But the latter group excels in accuracy of assessment. The study suggests points and
cases for ranking the techniques as best, 2nd best, and so on, where each technique could be optimally
utilized for a given geospatial dataset based on its contents.

Managing Chaos in Nonlinear Economic Systems: Globalization and Destination Tourism .297

The Lorenz system has been advanced as an explanation of the chaotic growth patterns observed human
settlements. It is questioned, however, whether the growth potential in population systems is sufficient
for chaos. With the modified logistic equation, the author demonstrates using data from the Caribbean
that solutions and trajectories can replicate formal criteria for chaos. Theoretically, the reason for this,
in addition to the availability of investment, demand, information, and labor (which alleviate the con-
ventional restrictions on growth), is the demand and supply-side synergies between activities within a
dynamic market-segmented sector. This chapter presents continuous and discrete solutions to the model
and explains key findings for destination take-off, accelerated growth, and economic maturity, with a
rule for modulating and managing chaos-prone economic systems.

The stability of output of a power station is an important criterion for power supply. It is always desired
that the voltage and frequency of output of any power plant should be stable. The nature of fluctuations,
if any, in the output, needs thorough investigation. If the fluctuation has high degree of chaos as revealed
by the time series representing the voltage, then such fluctuation may be controlled by introducing uncon-
ventional sources of power like hydro, wind, et cetera in the grid. The authors analyzed the daily voltage
output from five different thermal power stations in Eastern India. To analyze the dynamics of the time
series, the authors used the techniques from nonlinear dynamics Delay Embedded Phase Reconstruction
and Empirical Mode Decomposition. The studies show that the dynamics of the time path of voltage
output of Biharshariff, Maithon, and Jeypore power plants are more or less chaotic in nature. Therefore,
it may be inferred that in those particular grids, other sources of power generation may be introduced.

Nonparametric Estimation of Nonlinear Dynamics by Local Linear Approximation.368

This chapter presents a nonparametric estimation of nonlinear dynamical system models by a method of
metric-based local linear approximation. By specifying a metric such as the standard metric or the square
metric on the Euclidean space and a weighting function based on such as the exponential function or
the cut-off function, it is possible to estimate values of an unknown vector field from experimental data.
It can be shown the local linear fitting with the Gaussian kernel, or the local polynomial modeling of
degree one, is included in the class of the proposed method. In addition, conducting simulation studies
for estimating random oscillations, the method works well for numerical results.
