Publisher description: With an introduction by Robert E. Hegel, professor of Chinese and comparative literature at Washington University. This groundbreaking effort is the first translation of classic Chinese poems intended for contemporary English-speaking readers. Unlike previous translations done by sinologists, this new approach makes the sometimes difficult format of classic Chinese poetry accessible to newcomers to the genre. Treasury of Chinese Love Poems offers 74 poems by authors such as Li Bai, Guan Daoshen Zhang Jiuling, and Li Shangyin. About the Author: Qiu Xiaolong was born in China. He moved to the United States in 1989 and received his master's and doctorate degrees in comparative literature from Washington University in St. Louis. His novel Death of a Red Heroine was nominated for Edgar and Barry awards and received the Anthony Award. His second novel, A Loyal Character Dancer, was recently published. He lives in St. Louis with his wife and daughter.
