Zusammenfassung: | "The New Middle East is one of the first comprehensive books written by prominent scholars of the region and of comparative politics to critically examine the Arab popular uprisings of 2011-2012. While these uprisings prompted a number of cursory publications, this volume contains meticulous and thoughtful reflections on the causes, drivers and effects of these seminal events on the internal, regional and international politics of the Middle East and North Africa. Although specific conditions in individual countries that have experienced large-scale popular mobilizations are investigated, they are neither treated in isolation nor separated from broader developments in the region. Instead, the authors highlight connections between individual case studies and systemic conditions throughout the Arab arena. These include the crisis of political authority, the failure of economic development, and new genres of mobilization and activism, especially communication technology and youth movements. The careful analysis and reflection on the prospects for democratic change in the region ensures the book will have both an immediate and enduring appeal"-- |

Conclusion: rebellious citizens and resilient authoritarians / Valerie Bunce -- Selected bibliography -- Index "The New Middle East is one of the first comprehensive books written by prominent scholars of the region and of comparative politics to critically examine the Arab popular uprisings of 2011-2012. The careful analysis and reflection on the prospects for democratic change in the region ensures the book will have both an immediate and enduring appeal"-- Arab Spring, 2010- POLITICAL SCIENCE / Government / International bisacsh Geschichte Wirtschaft Politischer Protest (DE-588)4229763-1 gnd rswk-swf Arabischer Frühling (DE-588)102321377X gnd rswk-swf Protest movements / Middle East / History / 21st century Protest movements / Arab countries / History / 21st century Middle East / Economic conditions / 21st century Arab countries / Economic conditions / 21st century Revolutions / Middle East / History / 21st century Revolutions / Arab countries / History / 21st century Naher Osten Arabische Staaten (DE-588)4068789-2 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Arabische Staaten (DE-588)4068789-2 g Arabischer Frühling (DE-588)102321377X s Politischer Protest (DE-588)4229763-1 s DE-604 Gerges, Fawaz A. 1958- (DE-588)130501026 edt Digitalisierung UB Bamberg - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=027157596&sequence=000002&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
