Status
of
Minority
Community:
Endogenous and Exogenous Factors
Jaroslav Čukan
The ethnic issue is a current topic even in today s globalized
world. Minority ethno-cultural communities have in different
countries despite generally valid legal documents of the Coun¬
cil of Europe and the European Union a different position, dif¬
ferent relations with the surrounding community. They are de¬
termined by various economic, political, historical, cultural and
other factors resulting from the existence, activities and stimu¬
li of the minority, or they direct in an opposite way
-
from the
majority community. Although the quality of inter-ethnic rela¬
tions is often formed without the direct impact of both coexisting
parties, it is immediately reflected in hetero-pictures, in aware¬
ness of ethno-cultural differences and in the strength of the eth¬
nic identity. Minority status has long been produced in the pro¬
cess of historical development. It derives from the relationship of
the majority ethnic community, in which the minority lives, with
its own parent nation, or the entire ethnic community. The inten¬
sity and quality of stabilized interethnic relations can be changed
by seemingly irrelevant event, accidental situation or thoughtful
suggestions from the third party.

Centre of tourism is a multicultural environment.
Piešťany

international spa town. From the 80 s of the 20th century Arab
guests are an important and lucrative part of its clientele. Their

cultural difference causes many problems. Some of them stem

the mutual tolerance enforced by fulfilling the objectives

the
economic profit of the domestic, in tourism concerned popu¬

Albánská migrace do Itálie
Eglantina Zyka
Albánská migrace do Itálie, která proběhla po roce
1990
v něko¬
lika vlnách, vzbudila širokou pozornost italských medií. Media
vytvořila nový obraz Albánce, který spojila
s
kriminalitou a mo¬
rálním úpadkem. Tato výsledná stigmatizace Albánců se formo¬
vala postupně. Na začátku albánské imigrace v roce
1990
italský
tisk zdůraznil pohostinnost, kterou nabízeli někteří italští staros¬
tové
s

Albánci, i v důsledku
mediální pozornosti, se stali mezi zahraničními skupinami žijící¬

stigmatizova¬
nou.

Eastern and
Western
Ukrainians in the
Czech Republic in Mutual Reflection
Markéta Bezoušková
New Ukrainian immigrants distinguish themselves depending
on the geographic characteristic of the region they inhabited in
Ukraine, the country of their origin. Based on this, they paint
their own picture on the one hand and formulate the reflection of
other Ukrainian immigrants on the other. A comparison of view
275
attitudes of representatives of two different Ukrainian
immigra-
tion
communities, the Western Ukrainian and Eastern Ukrainian,
и
has revealed surviving stereotypes acquired in the regional socie-
q
ty
before migration as well as cultural characteristics thanks to

чи
which the pictures of „the other Ukrainians are painted. Despite ^
the barriers, they become close to one another in the Czech Re-

public on the basis of some social activities.

I
Parents Reflection of School Conflicts:
g
Russians, Slovaks, Ukrainians, Vietnamese
ë
Mirjam
Moravcová ^
The contribution analyses the opinions of Russian, Slovak,
§
Ukrainian and Vietnamese parents on the Czech state schools as
a space for inter-ethnic contact of the children. It focuses on two
questions: (a) the form and interpretation of the conflicts which
Џ
the immigrant parents ascribe to a different ethnic origin; (b) the
k
evaluation used by parents when looking at the school as an in¬
strument of transformation of the initial ethnic and cultural iden¬
tity of their children. The paper examines both problems upon
the background of the majority society and the Roma minority,
making a comparison of the views of the Czech and the Roma
parents.
The parents of the children from all the observed immi¬
grant groups claimed fewer problems of their children at Czech
schools, than Czech and Roma parents. In the interpretation of
the immigrant parents, ethnically motivated conflicts are not the
determining problem of their children at a Czech school. They
only acquire a major importance in the child—teacher interaction.
Taking into account their cultural background, the parents solve
such a situation either by leaving the school (Russians, Ukrain¬
ians) or via the headmaster (Vietnamese). Slovak parents did not
mention ethnically motivated conflicts.
Only a very small percentage of parents from all the four ob¬
served immigrant groups perceive education at a Czech school as
a threat to their children s ethnic identity. Those who have come
across such a threat, saw the reasons for it in the ethnocentrism of
276
a Czech school, and in the absence of information about culture,
history and the problems of their country of origin. The parents
expressed consent with the transformation of identity in connec¬
tion with the influence of the Czech school only exceptionally
(two Russian and one Vietnamese parent).
IDENTITY OF ETHNIC MINORITIES
Ethnic Identity and its Stimulation in the Minority Environment
Boris Michalik
The contribution will focus on the analysis of current possibili¬
ties to stimulate the ethnic identity of minority members. There
are several of them: the first presupposes socialization in nation¬
al spirit in the family environment, the second
—
the inclusion of
native language teaching in the school system, the third
-
active
work of organizations aimed at presenting the minority culture,
the fourth
-
the promotion of the homeland and the fifth
-
that the
individual will be willing to be a part of the minority community.
All of the above mentioned possibilities are affected by many dif¬
ferent factors dependent on the uniqueness of each minority so¬
ciety. The current situation of many minorities leads on the one
hand to commercialization of culture and ethno-business, on the
other hand to quick assimilation and loss of ethnic features. The
contribution will primarily focus on the ethnic minorities living
in Slovakia and the Slovak minority communities abroad. It is the
result of the realization of the field research in the minority envi¬
ronment since
2006
and studying relevant sources.
Economic Activities as a Factor of Ethnic Assimilation
Ivana Šusteková
The occupation of population is one of the factors that influence
the progress of the assimilation processes. On the one hand, it con¬
tributes to the preservation of ethnic consciousness, and at the same
277
tíme
it largely indicates and starts changes in culture, ethnic identi-
ty
and way of life. It affects the cultural exchange between
autoch- u
thonous (or majority) population and minority. New profession,
g
different type of work, as well as other options and assumptions of gf
social relations produce a whole series of endogenous and mainly ^
exogenous cultural changes. The aim of the contribution is to out¬
line the impact of economic activities on the assimilation of mem¬
bers of ethnic minorities (with the emphasis on Slovaks abroad).

Adaptive Steps and Integration Strategy of
і
Bulgarians in Czech Environment
8
Rumyana
Georgieva
g
ζ
The paper analyses the integration strategy of Bulgarians during
q
the process of their settlement in the Czech Republic. The arrival ^
to the Czech Republic and settlement are connected with an ad-
Џ
aptation undergoing by the immigrants before they get fully
inte-
ť
grated into the new environment. The immigrants experiences are
linked with acculturation changes that provoke among them deli¬
berate application of a certain integration strategy. The self-reflec¬
tion of the Bulgarians who settle down in the Czech Republic con¬
tributes to the issue by their unveiling the processes bringing about
an interior form of integration. Its course bears witness of the re¬
consideration of immigrants internal attitudes to their own inte¬
gration into the host environment. This integration has always the
same objective of making the members of a minority group iden¬
tify themselves as full-fledged members of an adoptive society.
The Influence
о
Reflection of
Hetero-stereotype
on Sett-identification of Hungarians
from Hungary in Czech Society
Jakub Holas
Stereotypes are important factors in perceiving others and es¬
pecially the foreigners from another group, whether they are
defined on an ethnic basis, or on another. In my lecture I take
another perspective
-
from the viewpoint of the actors themselves,
278
who are members of the Hungarian foreign community, and their
perception of their own image by the majority, i.e. the Czech soci¬
ety. I will observe the confrontation of the
autostereotype
with the
Czech
heterostereotype,
i.e. I will describe the reflection of the
stereotypical picture of the Hungarians by the Czechs and I will
furthermore observe how the Hungarians perceive this picture. In
this context, I will deal with the following issues:
1)
what stereo¬
types do Hungarian foreign minorities perceive about themselves
by the Czech society;
2)
how these stereotypes are „recorded ;
3)
how they are further „worked with . The second part of the con¬
tribution will be on „processing these stereotypes: a) what im¬
pacts do they have on the identity of the mentioned communi¬
ty; b) how these individuals adjust the adaptation strategies in the
context of this acquired knowledge; c) how these processed ste¬
reotypes influence the relationship of the Hungarian minority to
the Czech society.

„Just to Belong Somewhere . Czechoslovak and German
Visual Artists Exiled in London during the Second World War
Zuzana Skořepová
The submitted paper documents the destiny of Czechoslovak and
German visual artists who, threatened by German fascism, were
forced to go into exile due to their Jewish origin and the methods
of expressions used in their works. The objective of this essay
is to document these exiles attempts at integration into the Brit¬
ish society, and the acceptance of their works by local critics and
professionals. The research work was carried out with a select¬
ed sample of Czechoslovak and German visual artists. It also ob¬
serves the results of the aforementioned efforts within British so¬
ciety. Compared to the multinational features of artistic life and
creation, the author of this article emphasizes the specific condi¬
tions of wartime exile which had an impact on the artistic means
of expression and especially the integration of the individuals.
280
^
They are remarkably different to those than it was in peacetime.
<£
The author also notes the role of anti-fascist propaganda and co¬
operation of artists with the Czechoslovak government in exile,
which facilitated their integration.
Improvised Art of Verse or Articulation of National Identity and
Reflection of the World in Bask Poetry
Martin
Chochola
The article is focused on the relation between the phenomenon of
impromptu versifying (bertsolaritza) and ethnic identity and na¬
tionalism in Basque Country. The text is a result of the field re¬
search that has been carried out in the first half of
2012,
mostly in
the Spanish regions of the Basque Country. The art of bertsolar¬
itza, its social context and its possible relation to contemporary
Basque political discourse are presented briefly in the article.
Bertsolaritza is shown as an oral tradition adapted to present-day
social and technological conditions. Its relation to the politics is
manifestated on real examples. Some options for further research
are sketched in the conclusion.
Bouncing or Catering: Changes in the European Countryside,
Demonstrated with the Example of La Alpujarra
Kateřina Varhaník Wildová
The study focuses on new rurality, the examination of various
ways of strategy, management and thinking that develop outside
the urban environment, but upon the background of fully indus¬
trialised postmodern society and modern communication tech¬
nologies. The life style of new rurality
-
finding new sense of
one s life and self-fulfilment
-,
as opposed to the majority con¬
sumer society was the object of my long-standing observations,
using the example of immigrants who seek a better lifestyle in
southern Spain in one of the piedmont areas of the Mediterrane¬
an. However, this is no isolated affair as one can observe its ana-
281
logies
throughout not only the European space, but also on the

global scale.

In the course of
2011,
the survey was conducted on
15
women
§
who work together in north Bohemia in a factory and live in
z
a dormitory. ^
The survey has confirmed that all female immigrants
ar- g
rived for the Czech Republic in order to get some earnings and
§
to provide well-being to their children. As a rule, they were the
q
main or sole breadwinner of their family. Under the original
u¿
plan, they were supposed to stay here for three to five years. ^
However, due to the lower than expected earnings, except for
£
two of them, the women are not considering returning. Only
four of the immigrants came with the idea of permanent set¬
tlement, with the objective of letting their children study at
Czech schools. One of them decided to stay permanently af¬
ter a time and now she is planning the opening of a Mongo¬
lian restaurant.
In Mongolia, the respondents left their children in the care of
the father or relatives from both their and father s sides. How¬
ever, they prefer blood relations, also taking into account the
form of upbringing they themselves received. They are in perma¬
nent phone contact with their children in Mongolia (every day, at
least three times a week). They are close to them at least through
modern communication means, including web cameras. The me¬
diated rearing care includes: interest in the child s life and day-
to-day problems, educational instructions (taking into account
the relatives and human morale profile), and the planning of fu¬
ture (including the arrival to the Czech Republic).
For many respondents, the decision to leave their children was
traumatic and many are still coming to terms with this state of af¬
fairs. With a single exception, all of them are pursuing the same
282
objective:
to bring their children to the Czech Republic. Some of
them have achieved it.

Oblast Velkopolska a Poznaňská je nejvíce

Naše prezentace a výstavy jiných kultur
