Whoever has drunk it never forgets the taste. Praise along those lines for
Tokaji
(Tokay)
wine has been flowing from the pens of writers for centuries. Whether or not it was one s
favorite wine,
Tokaj
i s inimitableness
was consistently recognized. And, when it comes
down to it, can anything more favorable really be said of a wine? It is no wonder that the
Tokaji
nectar even earned a place in the national anthem of Hungary.
Tokaji
Wine: Fame, Fate, Tradition offers the wine enthusiast and the enthusiastic
traveler to Hungary a plunge into one of the oldest and most unique Great Wine regions
of the European continent: TOKAJ-HEGYALJA. Situated in a distant corner of the
former Kingdom of Hungary, the region would hardly have been known in Europe in
past centuries was it not for the foreign markets won over by its wine. But, despite that
success, few people could get their geographical and historical bearings on
Hegyalja.
The inimitability of
Tokaji
wine did not spring up full-blown. Miles Lambert-Goes
proposes to take you on a journey through the territory and centuries that shaped it.
