Summary
Prishtina with its suburbs, as a territorial-administrative center,
had a rich history as in the time of the Ottoman Empire, as well as
between the two World Wars. The population of this region, especially
Albanians, who were in absolute majority in the late
XIX
century and
early XX century, took part in almost all movements and wars of the time.
In this way Prishtina with its suburbs suffered a lot, but never gained
freedom. As they fought a conquering invader they fell into the hands of
another one and as a result even Albanians, never stopped fighting for
freedom. Preparations for the movement of armed insurrection and Kacak
movement prove their continuous struggle for liberation and national
unity. Due to this, the conquering invaders responded with inhumane
measures and with the deployment of military, police and civilian
government that had nothing to do with democracy and humanity.
National and class repression were the characteristics of invaders. They
didn t hesitate to massacre and vanish massively the innocent people and
steal from them everything that they had. The massacre of Prapashtica
village and other villages were evidence of morbid actions of Serb
occupation. On the other side, the Kingdom of SKS, ie the Kingdom of
Yugoslavia, had expropriated as much as possible the natural assets in the
region and hadn t invested a thing. As a result of this expropriation, the
main branch of the economy of Prishtina with its suburbs remained
extensive agriculture. However, due to the situation in the neighborhood
and interlacement of interest there were changes in agriculture, and also
in trade and handicraft. Especially it was at this time that started the
flotation of minerals and numerous organized researches regarding
mineral assets. Due to this, there was progress in traffic, credit
institutions, the use of electricity, as well as a number of other
advancements that the population of this suburb gradually placed in the
rails of a bourgeois society. This change and the complex political
circumstances, especially for Albanians, influenced the major social
contradictions. The dominant class, supported by government circles,
continuously pressed the working class, poor and expropriated peasantry,
with the help of colonization as well as with the help of so-called
Agrarian Reform, which made the existing ditch between Albanians and

Serbs-Montenegrins become deeper. This didn t bother the invader but
they stimulated it, by political parties, regardless of what name they were
holding
-
the radical or democratic. Xhemjeti didn t act according to the
requirements of the invaders, so with the help of state violence its activity
was extinguished quickly. PSPJ had tried to make for itself the Albanian
population and promised a lot, but failed to fulfill these promises. Other
organizations and bodies, who were led or were under its influence, such
as unions, acted in the same way and couldn t be released from national
and panslavic ideas, although that they were declared as supporters of
international proletariat. From this national panslavic and chauvinist
influence even various musical, sports and professional associations, in
Prishtina and its surroundings, couldn t be dissociated. In these tense
circumstances Prishtina and its suburbs waited the beginning of World War II.
