Zusammenfassung:The old houses of Isparta have preserved the features of the traditional Turkish house up the now. They reflect the history, the culture, the economy and the way of life of Isparta people. The design of old Isparta houses is influenced by such factors as the way of life and production, topography of the site and wealth of the family. They will have to come across the danger of vanishing because of becoming worn-out day after day. In this study, the traditional Isparta houses were analized and evaluated. These have been mostly built at the end of 19th or the beginning of 20th centuries. This is the period covered in the study. The study consists of five main chapters. In the last chapter the whole study is evaluated. Streets of the old quarters in Isparta are narrow and curvilinear. Topography is on inclines in Isparta but not very steep. Some houses situated on irregular plots meet are designed in perfect harmony with the topography and streets. In Çelebiler quarter, the city still preserves its traditional appearance. Houses which are built using "Hımış" methods are constructed around the narrow roads and mostly closer to each other. Ground floor is of stone. Ground floor functions as a space for productive activites. The exterior of the wall is usually jointed plastering is rare. The upper floors have a wooden frame construction. This is articulated with projections on road side. The projection sits on carbelling beams. The exterior surface of upper floor is plastered Curved supports are rare. Either gypsumwork or painting is used for exterior decoration. The shape of the room is a square or very close to one. There are coved ceilings in all of the rooms. There are built in closets and cupboards in the rooms and niches on either side of the hooded stove. The hood of the fairplace and niches are made of gypsum or wood. Roof is covered with semi-cylindiricial tiles.
