Summary
The subject of this publication is Jazowsko, a village situated in
Łącko
com¬
mune,
Nowy Sącz
district. It is dated back to 13th century. Its name comes
from weir
(pol. jaz )
which was situated on
Dunajec
river for fishing
salmon. This village, together with Obidza and Brzyna, constituted Jazowsko de-
mense. It was always in private hands (the owners of Jazowsko were among others,
the Lubomirski and Fihauser families). For many centuries central point of the
village was a church, and in social life prominent role was played by granges (at the
beginning there were four of them, in modern times three). The seat of the owners
was an estate manor situated nearby the church. Till the second half of the

century the village did not stand out above the other villages in
Nowy Sącz
district.
By the road from Jazowsko to Obidza there were, in 17th and 18th centuries resil¬
ient glassworks. It was until
1875
when Jazowsko was sold by
Stanislaw
Fihauser
to
Michał
Ader, an
Austrian of Jewish origin, the village grew in importance. The
new owner did his best to build a sawmill and then
a faeton
of furniture. It was
a huge plant employing up to
400
workers. Many people from Jazowsko, Obidza,
Brzyna and Kadcza were employed there. The factory was producing chairs, beds,
tables and many other objects of everyday use. During the times of its biggest
flourishing it was exporting its products to Germany, France and other countries.
Its office was located in Cracow. After death of M.
Ader
the village and
faeton.
were taken over by his sons.
The end of this excellently developing village was brought by the World
War II. The Germans took over the
faeton .
Because of Forest and Industry
Guards stationing in Jazowsko, the village has been faced with constant fights.
Many people who actively supported resistance movement came from Jazowsko.
Unfortunately, as result of war, particularly Russian guerrilla fighters during at the
end of
1944,
the
faeton,7
and manor house were burnt. It was an enormous loss for
the region.
After the war manor granges were plotted. Primary school has been com¬
pleted. The village was like many other in the district. Since then it developed
slowly. Efforts were put on making Jazowsko a commune. It was a commune in¬
deed, but social activist were not able to keep that state of things for long

Łącko
commune. During the times of the Pol¬
ish People s Republic, People s House, Health Centre, restaurant and shops were
founded there. During the seventies church farmyard has been rebuilt. Also roads
coming to village farms were rebuilt.
What was interesting, that there were plans to build a water dam in Ja¬
zowsko. It was even researched before the World War I by Gabriel
Narutowicz.
Many projects and cost estimation were made. Considerable part of the
Łącko
commune together with areas up the river till
Krościenko
were to be flooded.

Sącz
was interested in his project because of its constant
increase in demand for energy. At the same time the time s power plant has not
any reserves in electricity. Cracow was also supporting his project. Everything
showed that works on that would start soon. But an economic crisis of the thirties
made preparations postponed, and its future was determined by the World War II.
After the war geological researches were continued, but at the beginning of the
fifties the case has been silenced. An argument against the dam was to protect fruit
orchards, in particular valuable plum varieties. Finally a reservoir was built in
Czorsztyn.
Today in Jazowsko there are some companies, a junior high school, and
state of roads and main road lightening have been improved significandy. There is
also a kindergarten, some catering firms, shops of various kind and service estab¬
lishments. Nowadays, in Jazowsko there are almost
1500
inhabitants.
Jazowsko was on the list of tourist villages, but tourist issues are now mar¬
ginal. In fact, the only advantage of the village is a beautiful and marvelous sur¬
rounding. The only building which can be named a monument is a church dated
back to
1
7th and
1
8th centuries witch interesting interiors and
1
5th century painting
of Scapular Virgin Man7. There are no signs of the factory and manor house. Be¬
side, Jazowsko in separate publication. It consists of history of the church, school,
