SUMMARY
THE LATGALIAN PRIMERS
The author furnishes information on various types of the Lat¬
galian primers and ABC-books by commenting on the principles of
their compilation, writing and illustrating as well by mentioning
their most typical features and peculiarities. All the examples are
given in the orthography used in the book in question, preserving also
the obvious spelling and punctuation mistakes; now and then they
have been pointed out. The examples are given in italics.
Some seventy different primers have been published in the Lat¬
galian language and for Latgalians.
In Latgalian a primer or an ABC-book is called „lementars
(compare Polish
-
elementarz,
Lithuanian
-
elementorius, Belorussian
-

It is a shortened form of the word
„elementare
(compare
Latin elementarius
-
initial, elementary).
The information is scarce as regards the very first authors,
compilers of the Latgalian primers. The most popular authors of the
Latgalian original primers are Francis Kemps, Francis Trasuns and
Eduards
Kozlovskis.
The Latgalian primers have been written in different orthogra¬
phies. The compilers of the Latgalian primers, published in the 18th
and 19th centuries, have made use of the Polish orthography; however,
already the very first Latgalian primers (the so-called catechism
primers) demonstrate the typical features of the Latgalian language
quite precisely.

БУКВАРИ
Автор
рассказывает о разных типах латгальских букварей и азбук,
снащая комментарии об их составлении, написании, иллюстриро¬
вании, а также упоминая их самые типичные и характерные особен¬
ности. Все примеры даны в орфографии, которая использована в
упоминаемой книге, сохраняя очевидные ошибки правописания и
пунктуации; иногда на эти ошибки указывается. Примеры даны в
курсивном шрифте.
На латгальском языке и для латгальцев издано около
70
букварей
и азбук.
По-латгальски букварь и азбука называется
«lementars»
(сравните
польский
-
elementarz,
литовский
-
elementorms,
белорусский
-
пемантар). Это сокращённая форма от слова
«elementärs»
(сравните
латинский
elementarius
-
начальный, элементарный).
О первых авторах, составителях латгальских букварей и азбук
информации очень мало. Самыми популярными авторами латгальских
оригинальных букварей являются Францис Кемпс, Францис Трасунс и
Эдуарде Козловские.
Латгальские буквари и азбуки написаны в разных орфографиях.
Составители латгальских букварей и азбук, изданных в
XVIII
и
XIX
вв.,
использовали польскую орфографию, однако уже в самых первых
латгальских букварях и азбуках (так называемых катехизисних азбу¬
ках) довольно точно отражены характерные особенности латгальского
языка.
