population. About this senior figure of our nation, about this outstanding
intellectual and patriot: teacher and director of Normal school of Shkup, vice-
chairman of club Bashkimi and the director of the journal Bashkimi

he has not given him the deserved place but also etiquettes him, by calling a
betrayer. During
50
years of total communist
regim
the name of Rexhep
Mitrovica had been eclipsed.
Rexhep Mitrovica was born on
18
January
1888
in Mitrovica, from his father
Mahmud
and his mother Hajrije. His family belongs to tribes called Hot, who after
he had left Shkodra in the half century of
XIX,
was settled for a short time in
Podgorica. The young boy and intelligent has passed childhood in his birth-place,
and about the lacking schools in native language, he started religion lessons in
turkey language, although in this city over than
90
percent of Albanian, is spoken
pure Albanian.
In the beginning of XX his grandfather
Mehmet
Ago Pashai moved with
residence in Shkup. He finished the primary school Maqtebi edep and Intermediate
school
(ruzhdiie ).
In the school year
1902/1903,
he went in Selanik, where he continued his
studying in the Royal Gymnasium. With his parents assent he moved to Progress
Gymnasium (French Laic Mission). He mastered thoroughly French language and

studied with zeal natural and social sciences. The books became his best friends. He
noticed that in his human being was born the passion for literature. His dream was to
study literature or journalism in USA. He was determined for studying in Franc. In
Paris he studied law and at the same time he attended lectures of French literature
nearby University of
Sorbona.
He also was taken with political activity. He became a
member of Commettee
Bashkim
e
Perparim
and co-operated with journal Shivra
Xhumet . After the explosion of the Revolution of young Turkish people, he came
back in Selanik (August
1908),
who did a grand expectation for him.
He made a contribution to the organization of Congress of
Manastir
(14-22
November
1908)
where the use of Latin alphabet was placed. He came back again
in Paris to continue studies, but, because of political situations, in April
1909,
he
came back again in Selanik. After his father death and the burn of his house in
Selanik, he took his family and he settled in Shkup. At the beginning of
1910
the
revolt of Albanian populace were exploded for peace from Turk bondage. One of
ideologist of this liberation movement was also Rexhep Mitrovica, who was
nominated in this time as a teacher and then director of Normal School in Shkup.
He was chosen a vice-chairman of club Bashkimi . He became a regular co-
operator of journal Bashkimi

Kombit
and took part in the Second Congress of
Manastir
which was held on
2-3
April
1910.
He raised opposite to assimilation politic of Young Turk government, who
was identified Albanian and Turks, he was trying to impose Arab alphabet. After
the formation of Ballkanic Alliance between Greece, Serbian, Bulgaria and
Montenegro, Rexhep Mitrovica wanted to stop invasion and breaking of Albanian
territory, and he took part in the meeting that was held in Shkup, where was
decided that Albanian populace could fight for peace. Together with Mi that
Frasheri, Bedri Pejani and
Sali Gjuka
traveled to different Albanian places, from
Shkup to Vlora to scatter the platform of Congress who settled the meeting of all-
Albanian Parliament and also to take the representation.

years old, as a delegate of
Kosova
took part in the act of
Proclamation of Albanian Independence on
28
November
1912.
At first he was a
member of Senate and then he was nominated deputy minister of World Affair.
He was committed with all his human being for a Laic state, supporting the
principle construction of state institutions over the base of all religious. He
objected the decision of Ambassadors Conference in London for breaking Albania.
According to the decision of Conference,
Kosova,
which was a part of Albania,
with over
90
percent of Albanian populace, was given to Serbia.
In march
1914
Rexhep Mitrovica, in Government of Prince
Vidi
was decreed
as a Director of Education for middle Albania (Prefecture of Elbasan). During the
first world war he lived for a short time in Sofje
(
Bulgaria) and in Bucharest
(Rumania
).
In
1916
a the time of Austro-Hungarian occupation
,
he came back in
Kosova,
where he organized a network school in albanian language. Till the end of
the year
1918
he was a teacher and then a director of Popular School in Mitrovica.
He made a contribution in education and training of the younger generation and

was too generous. In November
1918
the Commettee
The nation defence of
Kosova
was established. Rexhep Mitrovica was one of the zealot member of
Committee, and for that he was sent to Paris to take part in Peace Conference in
Paris. He was one of the organizer of Congress of Lushnja, which was held on
21
January
1920.
In the quality of member of Popular Party was chosen depute of
Kosova
in
Albanian Parliament that was appeared from Congress of Lushnja. In this time, for
many familiar reasons, the systematization of his son, Nexhat, in school, and to do
any other usefulness things for his homeland and his populace, he stayed in
Viena
for many times, where he was introduced with a famous Albanian artist, Alexander
Moisiu and visited the arms of Gjergj Kastriot, which were exposed in the famous
museum of this city.
In December
1921,
Rexhep Mitrovica was nominated minister of Albanian
Education. He was one of the main initiators and supporters of holding The Second
Educational Congress
(22
July-3 August
1922)
in Tirana.
He was nominated as one of the first reformers and the most successful
Albanian education. In
1924,
after his resignation, he went in Italy, where he
stayed for many times in
Brindisi, in Bari
etc. From there, he moved to
Viena
in
Austria, and together with some activists they created the organization called
Bashkimi Kombetar where they put the journal with the same name.
Albania belongs to Francophone family. Rexhep Mitrovica was a francophone
too. In the beginning of
30
s he went to Paris, where he managed the journal
Bashkimi Kombetar . There he published a row interest editorials. After the
Albanian conquest from Fascist Italy on7 April
1939,
Rexhep Mitrovica left Paris
and immediately returned to Albania, whilst with Jugosllavian occupation from
Nazi Gjerman, he traveled to his homeland, in Mitrovica, where he established
Lidhjen Popullore and he contributed to establish schools and the organisation
of administration.
In August
1943,
Italian forces arrested and imprisoned him. He languished in
prison in Porto Romano near
Dürres.
He released from prison after a month, after
Italy Capitulation.
On
16
September
1943,
he took part in a meeting of The Second League of
Prizren, where he was chosen the first president of it. On
5
November
1943,
Keshilli I Larte (High Council) has nominated him Albanian prime-minister and a
minister of Populace Culture. In some difficult circumstances of world war,
Rexhep Mitrovica attained to create order and calmness, to raise welfare of his
populace life.
Nevertheless, fratricidal war that was encouraged from communists, was on
the verge. Then prim-minister, decided to resign because he didn t want to take
historic responsibility for this sinister bloodshed.
After the end of Second World War, he lived in Austria, but the last twenty
years he spent in
Stamboll,
where he continued to deal with cultural and patriotic

activity. He died
in
Stamboll
on
21
May
1967.
He was buried in Maltepe, with
paying homage.
The destiny of Rexhep Mitrovica, and his death far from his homeland has a
similarity with that of patriots, which disdained the life against their dream, ethnic
Albania.
In conclusion we can add that Rexhep Mitrovica had a sensational life.
During 50s of communist regime the figure of Rexhep Mitrovica was denigrated
and offended. He was called fascist ,betrayal, criminal etc.
Depending on western democratic criterion, it wasn t proved that Rexhep
Mitrovica, Xhafer Devaor another Albanian nationalist, have been war criminal.
In places where their regime have been distinguished for reliable democracy,
people of Rexhep Mitrovica s caliber were welcome, they were surrounded with
people s respect and they did their job with responsibility.
If it was proved that Rexhep Mitrovica, Mit hat Frasheri, Xhafer
Deva,
Xhelal
Mitrovica, Rexhep Krasniqi, Mehdi Frasheri, Luan Gashi, Vasil Andoni, Ernest
Koliqi and hundreds of them, have done crimes, then none of them would be
allowed to stay in worlds democratic places.
Nevertheless, the work of Rexhep Mitrovica continues living. Remembering
and the respect for him will never be missing. He is still living, but in another form,
even in his nephew s renew name, Rexhep Mitrovica, a famous artist, is known
with his brilliant role, like Hamlet, Vasllav Nizhenskij etc, he was honored with
prizes Molier , Kaloresi I artit dhe letrave etc.

Family for understanding me: Nexhat and his wife, his children, nieces and
nephews who live in Paris.
