n analysis of the phenomena of race and
culture contacts as they have developed on
various racial frontiers. Dr. Frazier bril-
liantly demonstrates that the racial prob-
lems of the world are never racial in the
biological sense; rather, they are one aspect of the total
cultural problem created by the expansion overseas of
European civilization. By virtue of its broad perspectives and
systematic analysis this book will modify and correct the
narrow, provincial view that has characterized the thinking
of most Americans about racial problems.
E. Franklin Frazier was Chairman of the Department of
Sociology at Howard University. Former President of the
American Sociological Society and former Chief of the
Division of the Applied Social Sciences of UNESCO, he was
the author of six books about Negroes in the United States.
