Item Description:Almack, 13. - Authorship of the Eikon basilike was originally attributed to Charles I, but according to Madan (pp. 125-33) it was written by John Gauden who probably included some authentic writings of the king. - Copy identified on UMI reel 2169 as from the British Library; copy has three Bodleian stamps on the prelims. Copy imperfect; lacking frontis. and final blank leaf; title paged annotated in MS.; tightly bound with print show-through and loss of text. - First two words of title in Greek characters. - Madan identifies quires from three settings in copies of this edition; some sheeets printed by Thomas Warren, the rest by Thomas Newcomb. - Madan, F.F. New bibl. of the Eikon basilike, 7. - Printer's name from Madan; place of publication from Wing; date of imprint given according to Lady Day dating. - Reproduction of the original in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. - Signatures: N2 B-M12 N4 (-N4).
