Item Description:A variant state of the second edition, lacking the square blocks on the title page, with quire A identical to the second and third issues of the first edition; "repayed" on p. 169, l. 4 is so spelled, while in the first edition it is spelled "repaied". -- Madan. - Almack, 3. - Copy filmed lacks portrait. - First two words of title in Greek characters. - Madan, F.F. New bibl. of the Eikon basilike, 2var. - Originally attributed to Charles I, but, according to Madan (p. 125-33), written by John Gauden, who probably included some authentic writings of the King. - Printer's and publisher's names from Madan; the publication year is given according to Lady Day dating. - Reproduction of the original in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. - The last leaf is blank. - The portrait is signed "Guil: Marshall delinea: et sculpsit" or "Guil: Marshall sculpsit". - Wing (2nd ed., 1994), E271
