Summary
On the 50th anniversary of these
the uprisings in
nation and city. The book pays tribute to the courage of Poles and Hungarians who
dared to rise in defense of human rights against the Stalinism regime.

Poland which publicly demanded the right for human working conditions, religious
freedom, and national political freedom.
In his description of
the standard of living in the city was steadily deteriorating, even in comparison with
other regions of Poland. It was especially painful as before World War II the levels
of education, culture and economic development had been very high. The people
of
privileged social group, and were very much aware of their social and historical role.
During the
Communist union leaders failed to communicate the problems to the government.
Non-union activists were frustrated. On June 28th,
