Summary:The present publication discusses the developments in Slovenia mass media between 1991 and 2003. Basic information about the country is provided as well as a list of resources that might be of use for studies of Slovenia mass media. Tha author describes the models for reform of the incumbent media, print and electronic, stating that the state remains involved. He describes the attempts to create a genuinely autonomous, public-service broadcasting authority for public broadcaster RTV, and is critical of the results. He sees a general unwillingness of the governing coalition in Slovenian parliament to allow such a public-service broadcasting authority. Similar is the case with the (former) incumbent print media: As the author shows, government-controlled investment funds remain present in this sector as well.
