Psoriasis is among the most common skin diseases. It is an
immune-mediated, non-contagious condition with a variable
prognosis. It may range in severity from a few scaly patches to
extensive bodily coverage, and may have a severe impact on
quality of life in even the mildest cases.
So far, the disease has retained the secret of what actually
causes the psoriatic lesion; whilst considerable advances have
been made in management in recent years, there is no absolute
cure, and no simple, safe and invariably effective treatment.
However, over the past few years, new therapies have emerged
which increase the possible treatment options. This extensively
illustrated atlas has been completely revised and updated with
reference to these new treatments, including advances in light
therapy, topical, systemic and immunomodulatory drugs.
