Zusammenfassung:"The History of Educational Administration Viewed through Its Textbooks provides the developmental history of the professional field of educational administration. This book discusses historical leaders such as Elwood Cubberley, George Strayer, George Counts, and Jesse Sears, and examines how their work influenced the profession. From the common school era of the 1840s through the era of accountability in 2000, these educational leaders wrote textbooks to both inform and instruct those following in their footsteps. The early textbooks written by these leaders were compendiums of "best practice," but they were later eclipsed in the 1960s by a theory movement, based on research in the social and behavioral sciences, to make practice more scientific. The theory movement, however, currently appears to be giving way to a return to textbooks and best-practice, professional standards."--BOOK JACKET.
