ASSERTIVE ROLE IN WORLD POLITICS AND, IN PARTICULAR, THE UNITED NATIONS.
THIS ARTICLE DEPICTS THE ACTIVITIES OF BOTH STATES IN THREE MAIN AREAS
OF UN POLICY: THEIR PARTICIPATION IN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS, THEIR
COOPERATION IN THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL FIELDS, AND, FINALLY, THEIR
CONTRIBUTION TO THE ENDEAVORS TO REFORM THE UN SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY THE
SECURITY COUNCIL. THE AUTHOR COMES TO THE CONCLUSION THAT BOTH GERMANY
AND JAPAN WERE MORE ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN THE WORLD ORGANIZATION DURING
THE 1990S. ON THE OTHER HAND SHORTCOMINGS OF THEIR UN POLICIES CANNOT BE
OVERLOOKED. |
