caraïbe le roman d’Emily Brontë Hauts de Hurlevent.
La Migration des cœurs en est une libre variation, pleine
de violence et de sensualité. Elle réincarne en Razyé le per-
sonnage de Heathcliff et fait de Cuba et de la Guadeloupe,
dans le dernier quart du XIXe siècle, le cadre de la passion
meurtrière qui le lie à Cathy.
Amours dévorantes, haines ancestrales, rivalités familiales,
forces occultes de la religion, l’auteur nous offre un voyage
exotique et luxuriant et nous révèle les émotions et les
déchirements des âmes et des corps.
L’écriture - langue métisse, alliance charnelle de français et
de créole -, la structure inventive et subtile, la vérité
tragique des personnages donnent à ce roman toute sa
force d’envoûtement.
Maryse Condé, née en Guadeloupe, a vécu dans divers
pays d’Afrique avant de retrouve/ ses racines à Ségou, au
Mali. Elle vit depuis 1986 aux Etats-Unis et enseigne la
littérature à l’université de Columbia à New York. Auteur,
entre autres, de Ségou et Les Colonies du Nouveau Monde aux
Editions Robert Laffont, de Mo, sorcière (grand prix
littéraire de la Femme en 1986) et La Vie scélérate (prix Anaïs
Nin de l’Académie française, 1988), elle a été la première
femme à recevoir, en 1993, pour l’ensemble de son œuvre, le
prix Puterbaugh décerné aux Etats-Unis à un écrivain de
langue française et espagnole.
