Zusammenfassung: | In the midst of political agitation and increased public visibility, late Victorian feminists turned to writing novels as a means of furthering their political cause without alienating readers. Subversive Discourse reevaluates this culturally significant literature that has long been considered sub-literary An engaging investigation into the specific circumstances surrounding the production of late Victorian feminist novels, Subversive Discourse delves into the politics and ideologies feminist novels addressed and challenged. This study also considers how aesthetic ideologies served to contain and negate progressive literary agendas such as that of the feminists. Kranidis argues that the Realists appropriated feminist literary and social accomplishments and hence challenges the notion that the Realists were pro-feminist. The author outlines the character of late Victorian feminism, reactionary opposition to it, and the narrative and textual strategies devised by feminists to ensure their texts' publication in a conservative literary marketplace |

spelling | Kranidis, Rita S. Verfasser aut Subversive discourse the cultural production of late Victorian feminist novels Rita S. Kranidis 1. publ. in the United States of America New York St. Martin's Press 1995 XVI, 143 S. txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier In the midst of political agitation and increased public visibility, late Victorian feminists turned to writing novels as a means of furthering their political cause without alienating readers. The author outlines the character of late Victorian feminism, reactionary opposition to it, and the narrative and textual strategies devised by feminists to ensure their texts' publication in a conservative literary marketplace Geschichte 1800-1900 Geschichte 1890-1900 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1880-1900 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1880-1902 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte Discourse analysis, Literary Dissenters in literature English fiction Women authors History and criticism English fiction 19th century History and criticism Feminism and literature Great Britain History 19th century Feminist fiction, English History and criticism Literature and society Great Britain History 19th century Social norms in literature Women and literature Great Britain History 19th century Women's rights in literature Feminismus (DE-588)4222126-2 gnd rswk-swf Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 gnd rswk-swf Frauenbewegung (DE-588)4071428-7 gnd rswk-swf Roman (DE-588)4050479-7 gnd rswk-swf Romanschriftstellerin (DE-588)4178446-7 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Frauenroman (DE-588)4134195-8 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s Frauenroman (DE-588)4134195-8 s Geschichte 1880-1900 z DE-604 Roman (DE-588)4050479-7 s Feminismus (DE-588)4222126-2 s Geschichte 1890-1900 z DE-188 Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 s Geschichte 1880-1902 z 1\p DE-604 Frauenbewegung (DE-588)4071428-7 s 2\p DE-604 Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Romanschriftstellerin (DE-588)4178446-7 s 3\p DE-604 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
