Zusammenfassung: | Despite the aesthetic and historical significance of the Royal Portal, scholars lack concrete knowledge about it since no documentation of its design and construction exists. Nevertheless, over the last century, a set of truths about the facade has become accepted. Employing a new methodology that overcomes the lack of documents with a revised form of connoisseurship, Edson Armi proposes a radically different biography of the headmaster that has far-reaching implications for the study of Gothic sculpture With a new perspective on this, the most important mid-twelfth-century portal, the book concludes that the style and cultural context of Ile-de-France sculpture is less defined and more diverse than previously imagined. More important, the book argues that the forms of art, as well as the design and working procedures in the Paris basin, can no longer be seen as unique or separate from the practices of provincial French art in the period before 1140 |

Press 1994 XVIII, 148 S., [44] Bl. zahlr. Ill., Kt. txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Despite the aesthetic and historical significance of the Royal Portal, scholars lack concrete knowledge about it since no documentation of its design and construction exists. More important, the book argues that the forms of art, as well as the design and working procedures in the Paris basin, can no longer be seen as unique or separate from the practices of provincial French art in the period before 1140 Meister der Chartreser Westportale (DE-588)119195992 gnd rswk-swf Cathédrale Notre-Dame (Chartres, France) Cathédrale de Chartres Geschichte 1200-1500 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1100-1150 gnd rswk-swf Gotiek gtt Oorsprong gtt Plastische kunst gtt Portails d'église - France - Chartres Sculpture gothique - France - Chartres Christian art and symbolism France Chartres Medieval, 500-1500 Church doorways France Chartres Sculpture, French France Chartres Sculpture, Gothic France Chartres Gotik (DE-588)4021656-1 gnd rswk-swf Sakralbau (DE-588)4178936-2 gnd rswk-swf Portal (DE-588)4046828-8 gnd rswk-swf Plastik (DE-588)4046277-8 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich Kathedrale Chartres Chartres (DE-588)4069930-4 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf Meister der Chartreser Westportale (DE-588)119195992 p DE-604 Gotik (DE-588)4021656-1 s Plastik (DE-588)4046277-8 s Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Geschichte 1100-1150 z Sakralbau (DE-588)4178936-2 s Portal (DE-588)4046828-8 s Geschichte 1200-1500 z 1\p DE-604 2\p DE-604 Kathedrale Chartres Chartres (DE-588)4069930-4 g 3\p DE-604 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 3\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
