| adam_text | One of the ancient inhabitants belonging to
the state of Tripura, is the people of Tripura
community with
2,16,033
population
approximately. The Tripura tribe is a part
and parcel of the larger
korokborok
speaking
people. Alike all the other
korokborok
speaking people, the Tripuras too, identify
themselves to be
Borok
and at this, feel proud.
The original homeland of this community
is shrouded in mystery. However, according
to the scholars the original homeland of the
Tnpuras can be identified as in the south west
of China near the headwaters of Hoangho
and Yanghsekiang rivers. It is presumed that
they left their original home land in China
is predominantly in search of food and other
means of livelihood. The Tripura community
like other tribal communities is the shifting
cultivators from the ancient time. As a nature
of cultivation

land. As on today the habitation of
Tripura community is in the sub-division like
Amarpur, Sabroom, Santir Bazar, Belonia,
Udaipur, Sunamura, Lontrai valley,
Gandhachara, Kamalpur, Ambassa,
Kailashar, Dharmanagar, Kanchanpur, Sadar,
and in some parts of Bishalgarh, Teliamura
and Khowai sub-division of Tripura. So, the
Tripuras are predominantly the inhabitants
of Tripura state but in course of
migration
as on now, this community is also living in
Mizoram, Hailakandi of Assam and East
Pakistan at present known as Bangladesh and
also in Burma. This book covers the life and
customary laws of Tripura tribe of the state
of Tripura.

Dr. Kashi Nath Jena is an Associate
Professor and the Head, in the
Department of Political Science, and also
the Co-ordinator, the Centre for Social
Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, Tripura
University (A Central University). Dr.
KJSI. Jena did his Masters in Political
Science from B.H.U., Varanasi and got his
Doctoral Degree on his thesis Intellectual
Propety Rights and Globalisation , from
the Department of Political Science,
B.H.U. As a Principal Investigator for
Institute of Integrated Himalayan
Studies, H.P. University, Shimla, he has
extensively worked in the Northern states
of India. He has worked as an Associate
of Inter-University Centre (IUQ at Indian
Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla.
He is the founder Chairman of the Centre
for Indigenous Knowledge and
Intellectual Properties of North-Eastern
Societies (CTKDPNES). To his credit. Dr.
K.N. Jena has good number of widely

and research papers/articles. Dr. K.N.
Jena has also worked as a visiting Faculty
in Malaviya Centre for Peace Research,
BH.U., Dibrugarh University and School
of Management, Assam University. He
is also an active member of Jadavpur
Association of International Relation.

has done
his MA. in Political Science from Tripura
University (A Central University). At
present Sri
Babu Dhan
Tripura is
pursuing his Ph.D. research work in the
area of Globalisation and Tribal life in
Tripura in the Department of Political
Science, Tripura University under the
supervision of Dr. K.N. Jena. He is also
working as Post Graduate Teacher in Ek-
Jatan Kumar Higher Secondary School,
under Govt. of Tripura.
