Zusammenfassung: | This book focuses on the unique nature of early modern Bolognese painting that found its expression in stylistic diversity. The flourishing of different stylistic approaches in the Mannerist paintings of the previous generation evolved, at the turn the seventeenth century, in the work of the Bolognese painters into an approach best described as eclecticism, characterized by the combination of two or more styles in a single work of art. Eclectism was a major innovation and major contribution to the history of art. But it then also became a critical term that suffered much negative press. The book therefore also traces the role of ecclecticism as a concept in the evolution of criticism and scholarship about the Bolognese school of painting over 250 years, showing how the dramatically vascilatting attitudes towards this concept shaped the historical view of the Bolognese painters, ultimately having a tremendous dampening impact on our understanding of seventeenth-century art |

Unger Amsterdam Amsterdam University Press [2019] © 2019 1 online resource txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier Visual and Material Culture, 1300 –1700 Description based on online resource; title from PDF title page (publisher's Web site, viewed 30. Apr 2019) This book focuses on the unique nature of early modern Bolognese painting that found its expression in stylistic diversity. The book therefore also traces the role of ecclecticism as a concept in the evolution of criticism and scholarship about the Bolognese school of painting over 250 years, showing how the dramatically vascilatting attitudes towards this concept shaped the historical view of the Bolognese painters, ultimately having a tremendous dampening impact on our understanding of seventeenth-century art In English Malvasia, Carlo Cesare 1616-1693 (DE-588)122440676 gnd rswk-swf Borromeo, Camillo -1549 (DE-588)1199979899 gnd rswk-swf Paleotti, Gabriele 1522-1597 Discorso intorno alle imagini sacre e profane (DE-588)7544763-0 gnd rswk-swf Winckelmann, Johann Joachim 1717-1768 (DE-588)118633600 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1500-1650 gnd rswk-swf ART / History / Baroque & Rococo bisacsh Painting Italy Bologna History Painting, Italian History Painting, Modern Eklektizismus (DE-588)4151664-3 gnd rswk-swf Kunstkritik (DE-588)4033659-1 gnd rswk-swf Malerei (DE-588)4037220-0 gnd rswk-swf Bologna (DE-588)4007616-7 gnd rswk-swf Bologna (DE-588)4007616-7 g Malerei (DE-588)4037220-0 s Geschichte 1500-1650 z Eklektizismus (DE-588)4151664-3 s Kunstkritik (DE-588)4033659-1 s 1\p DE-604 Paleotti, Gabriele 1522-1597 Discorso intorno alle imagini sacre e profane (DE-588)7544763-0 u Malvasia, Carlo Cesare 1616-1693 (DE-588)122440676 p Borromeo, Camillo -1549 (DE-588)1199979899 p Winckelmann, Johann Joachim 1717-1768 (DE-588)118633600 p 2\p DE-604 https://doi.org/10.1515/9789048537259 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext 1\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk 2\p cgwrk 20201028 DE-101 https://d-nb.info/provenance/plan#cgwrk |
