Zusammenfassung: | This work presents both the range of Arendt's political thought and the patterns of controversy it has elicited. The essays are arranged in six parts around important themes in Arendt's work: totalitarianism and evil; narrative and history; the public world and personal identity; action and power; justice, equality, and democracy; and thinking and judging. Despite such thematic diversity, virtually all the contributors have made an effort to build bridges between interest-driven politics and Arendt's Hellenic/existential politics. Although some are quite critical of the way Arendt develops her theory, most sympathize with her project of rescuing politics from both the foreshortening glance of the philosopher and its assimilation to social and biological processes. This volume treats Arendt's work as an imperfect, somewhat time-bound but still invaluable resource for challenging some of our most tenacious prejudices about what politics is and how to study it. |

This volume treats Arendt's work as an imperfect, somewhat time-bound but still invaluable resource for challenging some of our most tenacious prejudices about what politics is and how to study it.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Arendt, Hannah,</subfield><subfield code="d">1906-1975.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n50023617</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Arendt, Hannah,</subfield><subfield code="d">1906-1975</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJx4mV9dbY69vJ7FdQXyBP</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Political science.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85104440</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">POLITICAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Political Ideologies</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Political science</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Hinchman, Lewis P.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Hinchman, Sandra,</subfield><subfield code="d">1950-</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCjvpRb4t6RTghy4BxJxVYP</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n90665432</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Hannah Arendt (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCGrQQGVH7M3Bqxd7TPrpRq</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="t">Hannah Arendt.</subfield><subfield code="d">Albany : State University of New York Press, ©1994</subfield><subfield code="z">0791418537</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 93003844</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)27937200</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">SUNY series in political theory.</subfield><subfield code="p">Contemporary issues.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n83708668</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=5947</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ProQuest Ebook Central</subfield><subfield code="b">EBLB</subfield><subfield code="n">EBL3408307</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ebrary</subfield><subfield code="b">EBRY</subfield><subfield code="n">ebr10588858</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">5947</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Internet Archive</subfield><subfield code="b">INAR</subfield><subfield code="n">hannaharendtcrit00hinc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Project MUSE</subfield><subfield code="b">MUSE</subfield><subfield code="n">muse13936</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">7118157</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">9593604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |

This work presents both the range of Arendt's political thought and the patterns of controversy it has elicited.
