Fifteen new fossil species ofThalamoporella from the Tertiary sequences of western Kachchh, Gujarat,
India are described. Of these, four occur in the Middle Eocene, one in the
Miocene. Some novel features observed in this assemblage are the smallest mean ratio
length to zooid length as in T.
as in T. reniformis, transverse avicularia as in T.
mm) as in T. voig ti. Cluster analysis of the fifteen species based on twenty-five qualitative characters
grouped the total species into three assemblages whereby the possible affinities of the species among
themselves and their relation with primitive forms are explained. The parameters of zooecia and avicularia
are highly variable within the colonies with intercolonial variability being low in almost all the
kachchhensis, an abundant
stages of the Lower Miocene, shows significant shortening of zooeciaL apertural and avicularial dimensions
in the Burdigalian while attainment of maturity is somewhat rapid by the second generation in the Burdigalian
specimens whereas maturity is attained in the seventh or eighth generation in the Aquitanian specimens.
