Zusammenfassung: | "This book is the fourth -- and final -- publication in the TAL project series. This TAL project was initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, with the aim to improve the quality of mathematics education by providing a perspective on didactic goals and learning-teaching trajectories, and on the relationship between them. The focus of this book is on measurement and geometry in the upper grades of primary education. Measurement and geometry are important topics which perhaps do not get the emphasis they deserve. They build, in a manner of speaking, a bridge between everyday reality and mathematics. Measurement concerns the quantification of phenomena; consequently, it makes these phenomena accessible for mathematics. Geometry establishes the basis for understanding the spatial aspects of reality. See for extra information related to this book: www.fi.uu.nl/publicaties/subsets/measurementgeometry/" |

Print version record. "This book is the fourth -- and final -- publication in the TAL project series. See for extra information related to this book: www.fi.uu.nl/publicaties/subsets/measurementgeometry/" Preface; 1: Introduction and outline; Measurement; Geometry; Graphs; Applets and poster; 2: A description of the domain of measurement; Gaining control of reality; Overview; Basic principles, justification and characterization; The foundation: quantification and organization; The metric system; Decimal structure and prefixes; The connection between units of length, area and volume; Basic principles; Other quantities; Legitimization; Characterization; Gaining control of reality; Doing investigations, solving problems and reasoning; Prefixes; Length as the basis; Area. 4: The domain of geometryIntroduction; Basic principles, legitimization and characterization; Basic principles; Building upon the geometry from grades K-2; Mathematizing space; In summary; Legitimization; The practical and educational value of geometry; The preparatory value of geometry; The intrinsic value of geometry; Characterization; Inquiry-based; Differences in level; Structure of the curriculum; The geometry taught in the upper grades ofprimary school; Introduction; The three terrains; Spatial sense; Introduction; From the lower grades of primary school to the upper grades.
