My cry of heart for Côte d’Ivoire
This book features the testimony of a humanitarian worker for the
United Nation High Commission for refugees (HCR), who witnessed the
aftermaths of war in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Burundi.
Dandi Lou saw danger coming and tried as much as she could to thwart
it from exploding in Cote d’Ivoire. For that purpose, she braved her fear to
preach peace to all the political leaders of her country, even in remote areas
by risking her life, to reach out to all who claimed to be heirs of late President
Ho upho ue t- B o i gny.
Her numerous encounters with Presidents: Henri Konan Bedie, General
Robert Guei, Laurent Gbagbo and Alassane Dramane Ouattara, before
and after the war in Cote d’Ivoire, did not save the country from burning.
Although she met them individually and separately at different occasions, to
warn them about the danger that lurked our way, they found nothing better
in their heart to do but to make fun of her. Some named her “the cry baby”
or “the alarmist.”
This is what triggered the writing of the book: A CRY FROM MY
HEART; yearning for peace and a renewed IVORY COAST. Dreaming of
a united country, transformed into a land of opportunities, for the welfare
of all the Ivorian people and those who truly love the country and chose to
live in it.
Hélène Dandi Lou is originated from Cote d’Ivoire. She
is a mother of5 children. She first worked at the Permanent
Mission of Cote d’Ivoire to the United Nations in New York.
She also worked at Arthur Anderson on arrival in Cote
d’Ivoire back from New York, then she devoted her life to
humanitarian work at the High Commission of the United
Nations for refugees (UNHCR). She was first deployed in
Cote d’Ivoire then in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
in Uvira, Bukavu and Goma.She is the President and Founder of the NGO
Vision and Actions of African Women against Wars (VAFAG). On October 27,
2005, Dandi Lou spoke before the Security Council of the United Nations in
New York.
