Zusammenfassung: | This study provides a comprehensive biography of Russian general Aleksei A. Brusilov (1853-1926), commonly considered Russia's greatest general in World War I. Following in the footsteps of his military family, he entered the cavalry and quickly rose through ranks to the status of general by 1906. Brusilov's great fame largely rests on his successful offensive in the summer of 1916, when he inflicted a stinging defeat on Austro-German forces. As commander of the Southwest Front, he initiated his "broad front tactics" and attacked on a 250-mile front, inflicting a million and a half casualties. His successes crippled Austria permanently, making it totally dependent on Germany for the remainder of the war, thus insuring no German victory in the east. When the Revolution began in March 1917, Brusilov readily gave his allegiance to the republican Provisional Government and cooperated with the socialist Petrograd Soviet and their commissars and soldiers' committees. The government eventually made him commander-in-chief of all Russian forces. He died a hero to the Russian people and remains so to this day. In Russia's Iron General, Jamie H. Cockfield extensively examines all facets of Brusilov's life that led to his renowned reputation that continues decades after his death. This study analyzes Brusilov's political positions over several wars and changing political powers, his military history, theories, and tactics, and his personal and familial life. -- Provided by publisher |

-- Provided by publisher</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Brusilov, Aleksej Alekseevič</subfield><subfield code="d">1853-1926</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)118844997</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Brusilov, Alekseĭ Alekseevich / 1853-1926</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Russia / Armii͡a / Biography</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Generals / Russia / Biography</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Russia / History, Military / 20th century</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">World War, 1914-1918 / Russia</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Russia / Politics and government / 1894-1917</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Soviet Union / History / Revolution, 1917-1921</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Brusilov, Alekseĭ Alekseevich / 1853-1926</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Russia / Armii͡a</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Revolution (Soviet Union : 1917-1921)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">World War (1914-1918)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Generals</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Politics and government</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Russia</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Soviet Union</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">1894-1999</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Biographies</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Biography</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">History</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Military history</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Biographies</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4006804-3</subfield><subfield code="a">Biografie</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd-content</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Brusilov, Aleksej Alekseevič</subfield><subfield code="d">1853-1926</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)118844997</subfield><subfield code="D">p</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Erscheint auch als</subfield><subfield code="n">Online-Ausgabe, ebk</subfield><subfield code="z">978-1-4985-7252-1</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="m">Digitalisierung BSB München - As commander of the Southwest Front, he initiated his "broad front tactics" and attacked on a 250-mile front, inflicting a million and a half casualties. -- Provided by publisher Brusilov, Aleksej Alekseevič 1853-1926 (DE-588)118844997 gnd rswk-swf Brusilov, Alekseĭ Alekseevich / 1853-1926 Russia / Armii͡a / Biography Generals / Russia / Biography Russia / History, Military / 20th century World War, 1914-1918 / Russia Russia / Politics and government / 1894-1917 Soviet Union / History / Revolution, 1917-1921 Russia / Armii͡a Revolution (Soviet Union : 1917-1921) World War (1914-1918) Generals Politics and government Russia Soviet Union 1894-1999 Biographies Biography History Military history (DE-588)4006804-3 Biografie gnd-content Brusilov, Aleksej Alekseevič 1853-1926 (DE-588)118844997 p DE-604 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, ebk 978-1-4985-7252-1 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=031657133&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=031657133&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Literaturverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=031657133&sequence=000005&line_number=0003&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Register // Gemischte Register |
