Here in one magnificent volume is a complete visual reproduction of an exhibit organized by the Canadian Eskimo Arts Council to bring the sculpture of the Arctice to the great museums of the world. Each of the 405 carvings on display is beautifully photographed; most of them are shown singly on a page, and the highlights of the collection are presented in full colour. Essays by George Swinton, James Houston, and William Taylor trade the ecolution of this art form and provide an udnerstanding basic to the appreciation of the sculpture. Never before have the beauty and intense vitality of Eskimo sculpture been presented so skillfully in book format. This volume is not simply a vivid re-creation of the exhibit; it is a work of art in itself -- a beautiful presentation of the sculpture of the Inuit. Sculpture/Inuit réunit tous les chefs-d'oeuvre de sculpture esquimau et reconnait dans tous ses détails et d'une laçon définitive la culture de l'Inuit, les esquimaux de l'Amérique du Nord. Ce volume magnifique vous permet de'apprécier, à titre de spectateur, une reproduction de l'exposition organisée souns les auspices du Conseil canadiaen des arts esquimaux, dans le but d'apporter aux grands musées mondiaux la sculpture de l'Arctique.
