Zusammenfassung: | Where are women in art collections in Mexico? From this question, the Kaluz Museum initiated a review of its own collection with the aim of questioning the narratives of art from a gender perspective and invites reflection on the work of women artists through a dialogue with collections of other museums, collectors and contemporary artists. Curated by Karen Cordero Reiman, renowned feminist art historian and academic, the exhibition is intended as a starting point to interrogate and reimagine the history of art, as well as the possible futures of our culture and society. It is, at the same time, an effort to question and dismantle some of the hierarchical relationships implicit in our culture and artistic system. Art historian and curator Karen Cordero Reiman selected sixty of 149 works -by 39 women artists- from the Kaluz collection that, together with pieces from other museums and private collections. Participating institutions and collections include: Centro de la Imagen, Museo Nacional de Arte, Museo Nacional de San Carlos, Museo de Arte Moderno, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Rufino Tamayo, Museo Jumex, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), Museo Casa de la Bola de la Fundación Cultural Antonio Haghenbeck y de la Lama, Colección Blaistein, among other private collections. In addition, it has loans from contemporary artists and collectives. |
